So for those of you that aren't involved in my personal life, I had emergency surgery to prevent my death. Recovery and my job have eaten at my life and my brains. So I didn't have time to post or think about what to post. But someone asked that I resurrect my blog and someone else concurred. So I thought I would make a post.

Dawn of the Dead (Zombi)

Just finished up watching the original 1978 version of Dawn of the Dead. I watched both the regular and European version, not much different, a few scenes but most the same.

People in a mall having some fun to 70's music, oh and being attacked by Zombies. I will say having seen the 2004 version first (and a super bunch of times over and over) I was a bit disappointed in the ending of the 1978 version. It certainly left things up in the air, in a helicopter actually. Where as the 2004 remake pretty much tells you this is what happened, by watching the video the survivors were making.
An interesting fact is the the main black character Peter in the original movie was played by Ken Foree. Who again shows up in the 2004 version as a Televangelist, saying one of his lines from the original. "When there is no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the earth."

Ken Foree was also referenced in Shaun of the Dead. Shaun works at Foree Electronics.

When I took on 365 Days of Zombies

When I took on 365 Days of Zombies, I had no idea how much my professional life was going to change. Although the changes are for the greater good, it's leaving me with very little free time. So much so even my xmas tree wasn't taken down till yesterday LOL. So I'm not giving up, but I know this isn't going to end up being what I originally hoped for.

My professional life, which is much less awesome than my Zombie life, totally took over my life for all this week. I went to work, ate dinner (brains), and went to bed every night from stress. Therefor my blog was negleted. To make it up to everyone I'm gonna super post this weekend.
Luckly the 1978 American and European versions of Dawn of the Dead will arrive at my house tomorrow and I have 2004 remake. So look forward to a review and comparison of all three!

Today let's go with a Zombie classic film. The 1968 version of "Night of the Living Dead" a George A. Romero film. It goes like something like this, Mother sent us to do a favor for her, like she does every year. Oh wait the favor is to go drive really far out in the country to a graveyard to slap some flowers on a head stone. Brother is dumb, bitchy and trying to scare his sister. Boy do they not know what a scare they are in for. Your in a graveyard, the dead are rising from the grave. Quick run to some random farm house and try to stick it out with some equally annoying people. I'm not saying this is a fine film, but you have to take it for what it is, early Zombies at their best.
Cool thing is you can watch the whole movie streaming on IMBD.

The question often comes up will it be Science or Nature that brings about the undead? It is tuff to tell. Although there are no doubt ably test going on in government secret lab's across the world working on experiments that could lead to the undead becoming a reality. We also have to ask ourselves when will Mother Nature get pissed enough for what we do to the planet to turn on us? Turning us onto our selves as flesh eating zombies with no remorse.
28 Days Later taken the Science approach to the undead. Creating a Rage virus which is accidentally unleashed on the population of Europe.
Another question that comes up is will the zombies be slow and uncoordinated in their movement or will they be fast and seem almost super human?
28 Days Later takes the fast Zombie approach. Being chases at high speeds through streets, buildings and across open fields adds a new level of terror of what is to come.
28 Days Later is a must see and probably have seen a million times for anyone interested in Zombies.

So Zombies often still have hands, as well as teeth. All three are things that can grab! So when the undead go to catch you, you're gonna turn and run. This is where your hair style can become your worst enemy. One quick grab of a pony tail and you become Zombie lunch meat. Mullet more your style, hello Snack Pack, as your hair gets pulled and your flesh gets munched on. So when and I mean WHEN the Zombies come, cause we all know it is going to happen you might want to get a hair cut.

So I'm done with all the Holiday shopping, I still need to work on the Holiday shipping (yes I am late), I've made the meal, eaten the meal, I opened gifts, I gave gifts, my dog threw up on my gifts, I've eaten left overs of the meal, so I thought I would take a few moments to talk about Bacon.
Recently I told my husband Ham is Bacon's brother, after all they both have the same mom or dad right? Maybe this should be a tribute to Ham as well as Bacon in the spirit of brotherly love?

I wanted to give a shout out to the new Forward Foods location in OKC. I have always loved Forward Foods in Norman, but I live it Yukon, so if your in OK you know that is a drive and a half. So having Forward Foods in OKC is just Amazing! I went there for the first time this week to get cheese for my Birthday lunch, which was, cheese LOL. I'm super impressed the store is even bigger than the one in Norman and is amazing. So many choices, so much foodie yummyness! It is great. So go there buy stuff and support local!

So I've been going to planning meetings for Oklahoma's first Steampunk Expo. It has a great line up already and its not actually taking place till Apri 2011. I'm really excited it is going to be lots of fun. The hotel it's going to take place is great. I got a tour of it today, including the rooms. Lots of remodeling has been done and more to come before the event.

Ok I usually don't talk about Project Runway

Usually I don't post about Project Runway, but yes I watch it. Season 8 has really been full of people that are more cut throat than the previous seasons. I also really haven't agreed with who has been sent home.
Episode One: McKell Maddox was sent home. WHAT. The dress she created looks like something I would see at Macys.

I mean McKell had a men's button up shirt to work with, I think it's amazing.
Who do I think should of got the "your out" episode One?
Jason Troisi. He took a kimono, turned it backwards, fitted it a little and still had to send it down the runway with staples in it.

So Gretchen Jones won with this outfit, keep in mind the only thing she used from the original garment they had two use were the two small squares on the shoulders.

Episode Two: Let's start off with all things come to those who wait. Jason Troisi was sent home for his Infinity 8 dress that was again, not completed, so it was closed with safety pins. But on a sad note, yes I teared all up, Nicholas D'Aurizio was sent home. Yes he put to many elements together, but he at least he can sew and finish something to send down the runway. I really wish he had had a chance to just tone it down and focus. I really think he would of done well.
And Gretchen Jones won again, but I don't like it. Totally reminds me of what a guy that changes my oil in my car wears, tailored for a woman. Hmmm trend at the end of Episode Two, I don't agree with the judges.
Episode Three, I dont't agree with the judges still. The contestants were sent to a party supply store for materials. Sarah Trost did not deserve to go home! Casinova has been in the bottom again and again, based on his taste level.
Andy South won, his dress took some major work, thought and talent.
I might add pic's of the outfits not pictured later.
So in the years of watching Project Runway some of my fav contestants have won.

I was lucky enough to spend my Sunday evening relaxing with good people, lemonade, pulled pork sandwiches, and pie.

What a better setting than a lovely farm in Oklahoma to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Listening to a fiddle play, laying under the shade of a big ol' tree on antique quilts with fresh lemonade.

Samantha Joelle Honey Lamb has just had her second book published. The Perpetual Picnic. It is filled with photographs that sooth the mind and sole with poetry to match.

I met Samantha a couple of years ago and feel in love with her, her style, and her photography. She is sweet as the morning sun. I'm lucky to know her, and if you buy her book or her photography, you will be lucky to in a way know her as well.

Almost 2 months away and I already feel like I'm behind

So this year I will be making the drive up to St. Louis to go to the Strange Folk Festival again. I loved it so much last year, I just had to apply again. So I got in and now I'm already thinking, I have so much to do. But isn't it like that for all of us crafty creative types before a show?
I've been trying to focus on the first step in the process of some of my items. Such as cutting tons of squares from recycled tshirt for the coasters I make.

And doing the same with cutting out the coffee cuff shapes from recycled materials.

And in typing this I remembered a lot of people requested that I start making cuffs for their wrist in the same fashion as my coffee cuffs. And making a new pattern to the list now. I'm also hoping to whip up some tshirt skirts, which I have just made for myself and friends in the past.
Maybe a Chirp or two?

Let's just say moving to the bible belt has never been something I have been totally ok with. I love Oklahoma and even more I love my artsy creative peeps here. So when the belt of religion tries to strap one of those peeps in and persecute them, HELL no I'm not ok with it. But it's hell of amusing none the less.

Marilyn Artus currently allegedly needs to be saved. Saved from what would be my response. Marilyn currently has an exhibit at a.k.a. Gallery here in OKC, OK. OK still, um Claudia what is the big deal? Well that depends on who you ask. If you go over to this blog it seems that Marilyn needs spiritual saving, as do the owners and operators of a.k.a. Gallery. But if you ask this artist, we all need to be saved from narrow minded, bible thumping, rosary slinging churchies.
So what I get from them is that sure its ok for me to......

OK I by no means am a Gamer. But I really like Portal (I don't even own it), not only because it has a catchy song, but because hello it has Cake (lie) and companion cubes. Reba and George

I was contacted by dwelling spaces in Tulsa, OK at the beginning of February about doing some wood burning. Of course I was interested. I was even more interested when I found out that they wanted me to custom burn frames for Reba McEntire and George Strait!

So I was received and email of all of Reba and George's number one hits. I went through and picked out several for each frame, added some personalized stuff. Like the star since George is from Texas. A diamond for the lyrics to Little Rock. And there you go, the frames were born. OK so created.
Since these frames had to be so big for the posters that BOK Center Tulsa was making for Reba and George. Since it wasn't a size frame I could just run out and get at my local craft and hobby store. So dwelling spaces found Jack Sampson of C2 Design. His work is amazing. I hope to work with him on future projects.

This is this weeks installment of "These Are A Few of My Favorite Things". So I was on etsy.com and thought I would check out the Shop Local to see who was doing what in my area. I put in the small town I live in, which is kind of a suburb of Oklahoma City. Well to my pleasant surprise what popped up but I Love Sock Monkeys! Not only is this etsy shop adorable, this lady has a sock monkey collection and one of her monkeys has it's own blog. Existential Sock Monkey this blog is so awesome and would be great for kids to follow! It is the life of this sock monkey Noah and his friends. He just had his birthday and the party pictures of Noah and all his friends are great. I can't wait to get back to looking at more of this blog which is "One Monkey's quest to find meaning in the Yarniverse". Here is a picture of Noah and friends at the party.

On a side note, this I Love Sock Monkeys lady most likely thinks I'm nuts cause I just sent her this giant email, cause not only is she crafty and lives in my town she goes to BTT. For those of you not in the "know" or not living around here BTT is Big Truck Tacos! I think I will dedicate an entire blog post to them, soon,,,, but back to Monkeys!

So what else out there sock monkey is there, let us see what I see here. Er What? LOL so apparently Er Kommet! means he is coming LOL Look out sock monkeys are coming to take over the world!

LOL Ok if you know Regina, you might aruge with the title cause Regina is very cute and sweet! I meet Regina a couple of years ago down in Dallas, TX. Instantly I feel in love with her and her cuteness! She is so creative and kookie cool. When I first meet Regina she primarly was making these adorable Kanzashi.

Adorable flower hair ornaments, that are handmade from silk in a traditional Japanese way. Every single petal is hand dyed, hand folded and hand mounted by Regina, one at a time. She sells these in her Little Cookie etsy.com shop, hello even the name is sweet! Regina's Little Cookie shop also has adorable plush friends, if you've been to my house you know there is a little gyoza in my entry art collection :)

So Regina does all that, but that's not it. Like myself she is a creator of many things. So I was happy when someone I know and trust started making soap. I'm always worried about buying soap online because who knows if it will smell like what they say it does when it arrives at your house. New Weekly Post: These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

So I see things that are just to adorable not to share. Sometimes they are on other blogs, sometimes on etsy.com, sometimes in the most random places. With that being said I thought why not start a weekly post and title it "These Are a Few of My Favorite Things". So here it is, first installment in what I hope to have be a weekly thing.
This came to me in an Etsy Finds email, and well set the cheesy mood for the rest of this post.

Now I don't have an iphone but if I did, this is where it would live, inside this wonderful cheese pocket.

So for those of you that don't know me personally in my day to day life, I have to tell you upfront, I have a strong, uncontrollable, love, wait no lust for fine cheese! So naturally all things cheese and cheesy make me smile.

Sample some of their wonderful cheeses from around the world, get two or three of your favorite cheeses some crackers, one of their travel cutting boards and some wine and head to the seaside. If your in the Santa Barbara, CA according to their website they just opened a location there as well!
Washington, doesn't have any short supply on cheese either.

Beecher's Handmade Cheese @ Pike Market in Seattle is sure to have something for everyone. I was lucky enough to have my s'father-in-law send me, Just Jack , Marco Polo , and No Woman for my birthday. I have to say Marco Polo is my fav of the three, with Just Jack a close 2nd. Marco Polo has green and black Madagascar peppercorns.
So you might know I don't live in CA anymore and I don't live in WA, so what does OK have to offer, never fear!

Forward Foods has the best cheese I have found in the State of Oklahoma. This is where I met my fav cheese of all time Mimolette. And total plus they have Beecher's Marco Polo!

Project clean Studio on hold

My Project Clean Studio has been put on hold for a week or so. So I'm working on this project in my living room. I've been asked to wood burn two giant frames for two giant celebrities! They are both singers and I've been asked to put some of there number one hits on these frames that were custom made for this job. It is exciting and I can't wait to see the pictures of the frames with the celebrities when they are presented to them. I can't say who its is yet, since these are gifts. But more to come for sure. In the mean time, all you creative people out there, Get Your Craft On!

It seems like myself and many of my neighbors are taking 2010 slowly. By that I mean there are still some Christmas decorations out in the neighborhood as well as in my house. I hope that the Christmas Village gets put away soon. By that I mean I hope my husband does it.
I'm taking my time in rearranging and organizing my studio for 2010. Here is what it started the year off looking like.

The Holiday Season

Oh the Holiday Season is nearly at an end. As for us here in the mid-west we were hit with a blizzard on Christmas Eve which killed all hopes of Christmas Eve dinner with friends. Nothing to fear at least we were home safe. I know some people weren't as lucky, lots of accidents, abandoned cars and stranded people. We ended up with 14 inches of snow total although with the MAJOR wind some of the snow was 4 ft high. As 2009 comes to an end I can't help but just want to hurry up and tell it good-bye. It hasn't been the best year for the economy, family or friends. I think we all have high hopes for 2010 and what it offers, a fresh start. So to everyone I wish you a happy and safe New Years Eve, I look forward to talking to you again in 2010.

It's The Holiday Season

OK wow its been quite sometime since I posted anything. After two weeks in CA for Thanksgiving, four of which were travel days, I'm glad to be home for Christmas. I've been sewing a lot lately and discovered I really like embroidery. Of course I always forget to take pictures before I wrap presents I've made. I hope to get photo's of the gift recievers with their handmade gifts to post here the week after Christmas.
For me the Holiday Season isn't just about the Holiday's, because it also happens to be about ME! OK well my birthday. December 23 I will celebrate another year of living, breathing and of course creating. I intend to spend this year thinking about all of the great opprotunities I have had in the past and all that the future holds. I hope that my new year of living, breathing and creating, brings with it some organization and goals. Being a Manic Crafter is fun, but its not very organized or well thought out.
I hope to go back to writing for a local art paper, Art Beat. I wrote for them a couple of times over this last year and enjoyed it, I just dropped the ball on keeping up with what was going on and doing it. I don't know exactly what my new year of life holds, but I certainly hope I take the time and effort to make the most of it.

How I screen print

Well this was a tuff call for me to make, but I'm having to make a change to my 2009 Show line up. Due to being a bit overwhelmed with Strange Folk, Indie Emporium, The Girlie Show and some health issues, I'm having to not participate in The Plaza District Festival.
I really wanted to participate because I'm sure this year will be a great year for the show. But I just had to rethink what I was doing. I look forward to hearing all about the show and I hope that I will be able to attend.

Claudia's Burning Ink has been accepted to Strange Folk in O'Fallon, IL and Plaza District Festival in Oklahoma City, OK and Indie Emporium in Tulsa, OK and The Girlie Show in Oklahoma City, OK. So at least four more chances to get a hold of some amazing handmade stuff this year!
Strange Folk will be the launch of my Market Totes, great for shopping, trips, sleep overs, and even Halloween trick or treat bags!
The Girlie Show will be the launch of my Messenger Bags!
Both the Market Totes and Messenger Bags are part of Claudia's Burning Ink's, The Green Line.

I've been trying to sew and work on products as much as possible here lately. I've been sick off and on again which has slowed me down some. But I'm still movin' along.

I know I will be participating in Strange Folk Festival in O'Fallon, IL the last weekend of September.

I still am going to try to do The Plaza District Festival on October 3rd.

I've applied for Indie Emporium in Tulsa for October 9-10.

I've also applied for The Girlie Show on November 6-7.

Needless to say I need to get busy. I've been working a lot on these Market Totes, they are fully lined and really sturdy. What do you think?

This one is kind of random stuff I've been doing while I've been in CA.

My mom has a basket weaving class she goes to every Thursday at the Kern County Museum. So of course when I'm here I get dragged along. Cool thing is this group has expanded and they don't just do pine needle basket weaving. There is gourd art, beading, and other well basket weaving. I took my mom's wood burner and worked on some new pendants for Claudia's Burning Ink.

Also here are some images from the Central Coast, including my families fav Mexican place to eat on the coast in Nipomo, CA.

My trip to CA is nearly over. I have to say I look forward to getting home, to my husband, my dog, my cat, my studio and my own bed. But all in all this trip has been really fun and I did manage to even create while I was here.

Going Coastal

So last weekend I was able to head over to the CA central coast and spend three days in the sand. But don't think that doesn't mean I didn't get my craft on. I made sure to schedule the little beach trip around two craft shows. The first was in Morro Bay. I have to say I really was just going to slam this one for having all the NOT handmade stuff from L.A. Like this booth,,,

However I ended up coming across two booths that just made my heart smile. First off was this guy that made bird houses, yea I know, seriously Claudia bird houses. Well these were note worthy because they are like any I've ever seen. He has this technique of making the roofs very whimsical see....

Then found this group of ladies that make all kinds of handmade dolls and friends. I really admire that they take the time to put in such little details into there work. I purchased this lovely spelf, half sprite, half elf friend from Chimera Threads

Chimera Threads isn't online selling yet but I shared tons of info with her about Funky Finds, Artfire and Etsy. So maybe she will be online soon.

So all in all the Sunday craft show in Morro Bay wasn't a total bust. Then I was off to the craft show at Dinasour Park in Shell Beach. They do not allow non-handmade items. There were lots of interesting creative people there peddling their wares. And the weather was fantastic!

So all in all my day of hitting up the craft scene on the central coast was great.

Bakersfield?

Bakersfield, CA is where I was born and raised. Here's what it has to offer when I visit family there.
First off F&M's Fabric Store! This is no regular fabric store, fabric isn't on tiny bolts, its on gigantic rolls. Prices start at a buck a yard! They have everything, knit, cotton, crazy prints you will never see anywhere else, fancy stuff, upholstery, trims, buttons, ribbons, anything sewing related you could ask for. The largest selection of minky for only $10 a yard! I have been there twice on this trip and I have boxes of fabric that I'm going to have to ship home, but so worth it.

Most of the other places I like in Bakersfield have to do with food.
Basque is a mandatory stop on every visit. Woolgrowers is awesome. Basque food is usually served family style, first course is a vegetable soup, beans, salsa and sour dough bread. Second comes salad with a light oil vinegar, picked tongue, and sometimes tomatoes. Then is the meat course always followed with some ice cream! Eat light before you go! What do I get there, Pork Chops with extra garlic, keeps vamps away, and ice cream Spumoni!

Hey Luigi! Luigi's is a monument in Bako, celebrating 100 years in 2010! Italian food, family, friends, fun its awesome. Yep you can get pickled tongue here too, but you can also get some R&R, that's Ribs and Rigatoni! (Friday Only) Luigi's isn't open for dinner its a lunch spot, and if its not 100+ degrees, the patio is a nice place to relax. What do I get, an Arnold Palmer to drink, Giovanna’s Gourmet Salad, and White Pasta-Spaghetti with Butter, Parsley, Garlic & Parmesan Cheese, all is served with an antipasti of a roll, salami, cheese, pepperoncini and marinated carrot.

que paso? I love mexican food and I don't know many people that don't. Los Tacos De Huicho keeps it simple and delicious.

There menu is short and sweet, pick a meat pick an item, burrito, taco, sopa, torta, get some papas or rice and beans to go with it and your set! I hadn't been there in a couple of years and I have to say its just as good, the place is clean, the service is fast and hello they added a bar! What do I get there asada tacos Tripas, also known as Machitos taco, asada sopa and papas.

Still hungry? Bakersfield is lucky to have not one but two of the best made on site ice cream places in the USA! Dewar's Ice Cream is celebrating 100 years this year of serving some of the best ice cream and candy in the world.

It's across from Bakersfield High School so you can imagine all the kids that have made there way over there for some sweets after school. They have a counter with real soda jerks! They also make some great chew candies. A few years back Dewar's was asked to sell at Disney's El Capitan Theater in Hollywood. That's right so even if your not in Bakersfield, you can get your Dewar's fix in Hollywood, CA! What do I get when I go, a Black and White!

A little side story from my childhood, before I was 5 when my parents would take me there, they use to tell me that the building down the street was an orphanage and that they were taking me to get ice cream before they dropped me off to live there. Oh my parents, twisted.

The second amazing made on site Ice Cream place is Rosemary's Family Creamery. Not as old as Dewar's but its tasty too.

I'm surprised they don't seem to have a website? Anyway, what do I get there, creature of habit, a Black and White.

So I guess that is my culinary tour of Bakersfield, CA. What else should you know, if your visiting try not to do it in the summer, it gets over 100 degrees a lot. Bring loose fitting clothes, so you can eat :) Enjoy yourself.

Los Angeles Trip Post Two

OK so I got so crazy with posting about Kit Kraft yesterday I didn't go on to post about California Millinery Supply and the L.A. Fashion District.
So my second stop on my creative shopping trip to L.A. was California Millinery Supply where its all about hat making of course. Now I've never made an actual hat before, fairy princess and birthday crowns yes, but a real hat nope. But this place is really inspiring. Its a narrow and long store filled with feathers, hat forms, flowers, ribbons and lots of other hat related goodies. I picked up a elf sort of looking hat frame, a green ostrich feather and some vintage red glass berries. I've been searching online on how to go about covering the hat frame with fabric and creating my one of a kind woodland hat. I hope to have it done by the time I'm at Strange Folk so I can wear it!
Just a few block from the millinery store was the Fashion District, where fabric flows on bolts galore! I didn't take pictures because I was to busy looking at all of the fabulous fabrics and trims. Michael Levine is a popular stop for fabrics in the Fashion District, but the best thing is across the street from the main store is the "Loft" where fabric is sold for $2 a pound! I picked up some great prints to make into market totes. One of my best finds of the day? Target Trim Corp. this places has any trim for anything, lace, tassels, rhinestone, ribbon, buttons, zippers, thread, nylon, glittered, glamours, you need trim this is the place to go and they sell wholesale too!
So after this day filled with creative goodness it was time to get some good food in our tummies. So Aunt Carla and I were off to Westwood for some good stuff at Jerry's Famous Deli. Located right by the UCLA campus Jerry's is always a great place to grab some good eats. I had a Patty Melt cause they make it with rye bread, they way it should be made, with their black and white shake, the glass is lined with chocolate with a vanilla shake pored in the middle, YUM! Aunt Carla went with the pastrami, which I eyed the whole time wondering if I should of got the pastrami? Being in CA you never know who you might run into. I was in the bathroom at Jerry's and the paper towel dispenser didn't work. This lady tried to use it and I pointed out to her it didn't work. I looked in the mirror and realized she was Maura Tierney. When I called my husband on the drive home to tell him about my day and my star sighting, all I could think was, that actress who was in Baby Mama that licked the chocolate, not knowing if it was poop or chocolate, "It's chocolate"
Well what a wonderful day I had in the L.A. area. Thank you so much to Aunt Carla for doing all the driving and taking me everywhere I wanted to go.

Trip to Los Angeles Post One

My husband's Aunt Carla was kind enough to offer to take me to L.A. for the day when she heard me going on and on about wanting to go down there while I'm in CA. So we headed last Wednesday morning. I had only two places for certain on my list of must shop at, Kit Kraft and California Millinery Supply. (Blog on the Fashion District to follow)
First stop when we got down south was Kit Kraft as soon as I walked in I knew I would walk out with less cash in my hand and more creativeness in my heart. Now about half of the place is models, cars, planes, robots, stuff like that but hey never say never to something new. I walked thru the model portion of this cute quaint shop and found my husband a Robbie the Robot model kit and for myself these really neat trees. They are actually paper you put together yourself and can color them or leave them white. I picked up some miniature animals two squirrels and two bunnies and I hope to make a scene with the trees to photograph them, maybe into note cards or who knows. Oh and they sell glitter in BULK! Hello all of you that are glitter crazy!

I also picked up Black Shrink Art cause I hadn't ever seen it in person.

Well what started off as a trip due to a parent in the hospital has turned into a creative adventure. The parent ended up to be fine, so why not take advantage of the 3 weeks in California. I will be postin' about my trip to Los Angeles and all of the fantastic stores and scores when I get back to my normal life around Aug 13.
I have been a SEWING MACHINE since I've been staying with my parents. Three new Chirps and 11 tote/market bags and its only been a week so far.

That's right you heard it Claudia's Burning Ink, "The Green Line" to be specific has went the way of the Plushie. I really took a long time to think of what I wanted to make in plushie form. Did I want to create, monsters, robots, rabbits, bears, well lets see what do I love to watch play and scatter about, SQUIRRELS!!!!! So with that in mind Chirp was well born. My first Chirp was born from a pink argyle sweater and some tshirt scraps.

He is for me and was my learning curve.

Today Chirp 2 was born, I guess you could call him Chirp 2.0 he is made from a sweat shirt and some tshirt and sweater scraps. Chirp 2.0 is well very unique. I'm quite sure that when Chirp 2.0 yells out his chirp he has a stutter. Also I'm quite sure he laughs a lot at basically anything, a leaf falling from a tree can send him into a laughing fit with tears and everything. And his laugh a loud repeated high pitch cackle of sorts, its quite funny.

The Green Line of Claudia's Burning Ink has really been a very big thing for me this year. I really enjoy hunting and finding great fabrics, and clothing that can be recreated and given a new life. I'm most proud of the Coasters I created for The Green Line. Not only are they made from 100% recycled clothing, they also have recyceld plastic. Which just happens to make them waterproof! No worries about moisture soaking thru the knit fabric only to leave marks on your table. These babies have plastic inside to prevednt that. From Tee to Tank

I found a tank at a garage sale that I liked the style but didn't like the material. I really just got it to use as a pattern to make tanks. I took a Cookie Monster t shirt I got at the thrift store and with some cutting and sewing came up with this tied top tank.

I really like how it came out. I think it ended up to be a medium when I was done. The one down side was, it wasn't until I was cutting it out that I realized it does have a stain at the bottom back, that looks like Cherry Slupie to me. So I will be selling this one at a DEEP discount of only $5 plus shipping. If your interested just contact me and let me know.

Sergers are Messy

Sergers are messy, but not if you have my new item The Catcher - Serger Style.
The Catcher is great for catching all those threads and little pieces of fabric that well happen when you use a serger. Yard Sale find

I wanted to share this yard sale find I picked up on Friday. When I picked up this little shelf the dowel was missing. But I knew right away even though it was off white plain and boring I could make something wonderful out of it.
I started off by painting it black. I thought I would put this little shelf in my studio for some much needed storage and to hang a roll of paper towels on. After painting it black I was off to Hobby Lobby to figure out what scrapbooking paper I wanted to add to it. My studio is decorated in black and pink. After may trips back and forth from the scrapbook section to the fabric section and back I found two shades of pink and a beautiful black and white pattern paper. I printed the words "Craft From Your Heart" on one of the pink papers. So after much cutting and glueing and then glittering I was done. I hung it on the wall in my studio and put a roll of paper towels on the rod. Wouldn't you know it, this thing I guess wasn't meant for paper towels!!!! The roll won't, well roll.

So now that it is all cute and wonderful, it doesn't serve the purpose I purchased it for. However it will be great for storing ribbon on, once I get a thinner dowel. Since I already have ribbon storage dowels, I'm glad that a creative friends birthday is coming up. I know she will enjoy hanging ribbons on her wall of her studio.

A weekend full of wonderment

Its been a bit, and I mean to blog more. But life just gets in the way to much. Although I suppose death would prevent me from writing too. Oh well. Friday April 24 I was lucky enough to head to downtown OKC for the annual Festival of Arts. Put on by the Arts Council of Oklahoma City this event starts on Tuesday and ends on Sunday. Artist come from all over to show their creativity. Everything from pottery, huge sculptures to paintings and glass. Its a great chance to take in the fresh Spring air and enjoy the creativity people around you. It doesn't hurt that you can get all kinds of food, watch music and other performances too. This year I saw this piece and couldn't help but fall in love with it.

This wonderful imaginative creation is the work of C.J. Bradford. C.J. lives in Flower Mound, TX however he attended OU in Norman, OK. His imagination amazes me. Actually that is what I told him when I met him. "I love your imagination." Where else could these lovely creatures and creations come from. I'm certainly an admirer and hope that I see one of his works on my wall soon. Check out his other works and wonders.

From the OKC down to Ft. Worth for Funky Finds Spring Fling. Not only was I lucky enough to have a booth at this great event. I was lucky enough to see all my Texas creative friends!

Honestly there was one person I couldn't wait to see, cause I couldn't wait to buy from her. Regyna! Cause I couldn't wait to get my hands, literally on these!

Nope those are sweets or well dentures, those are SOAP! Wonderful amazing soap that smell as good as they look! Now I'm not one for buying soap online, but Soapopotamus has my business. I knew Regyna wouldn't steer me wrong when she said how long it takes her to get the scents for her soaps just right. And since I've got these lovelies I can't help but want to bake a cake! Oh yeah the dentures, a birthday gift for my dad. So order some for yourself, your friends or your foes.

Even Indie is bigger in TEXAS

I'm sure you've heard everything is bigger in TEXAS. Well so is the indie craft movement, revolution, whatever you want to call it.
This Saturday in Ft. Worth 129 vendors will peddle their creative wares at Funky Finds Spring Fling. Not only is this event free to attend, its kid friendly and hello PET friendly! So check it out Saturday 10-6 for lots of fun and some well funky creations.

And Sunday will be prosperous....

Sunday's are just made for fun. Laying around watchin tv, spending time with friends, and hello gettin' my craft on!
I was lucky enough to spend Easter Sunday with one of my fav families the Shidell's. Julie and I spent the whole day, yes the whole day, I think it was 8 hours, cutting, sewing, serging and drooling. Drooling over her new "baby" lock serger and drooling over all the lovelies we made. I owe a lot of the inspiration for "The Baby Green Line" to Julie.

So we took this....

and this... ugh I look horrible......

and turned it into this...

100% Recycled Bibs and Burp Clothes! The only thing not recycled on these adorable creations are the thread to sew them with and the little square of Velcro on the bib. I still need to trim off the threads and make them present perfect.
I can't wait to premier these at Funky Finds Spring Fling in Ft. Worth, TX on April 25th.

HAPPY EASTER!!!!

We now welcome Spring, hopefully the Mother Nature will realize it is Spring. A few weeks ago when visiting my friends house for our weekly Art Club creative group. One of the first signs of Spring was there, this pretty daffodil. Of course since then we have had a blizzard and ice storms in the state. Yes my friend has her skelenton out year round. Who said it's just for Halloween. Well welcome Spring I missed you!

Tutorial: Making a mold for polymer clay

~Start with molding material for use with polymer clay (you can also actually use polymer clay as the molding material)

~Find an item that will make an easy impression in the molding material.

~Flatten molding material center your item to be duplicated over the molding material.

~Press item to be duplicated into molding material, push in sides for full impression. (when using polymer clay as the molding material, brush a light dusting of baby powder on first to prevent the clay from sticking to the original:

~Slowly pull straight up to remove you original item.

~Bake your molding material according to the directions on the package. After baked, lightly dust mold with baby powder using a brush. Press polymer clay into prepared mold.

~Remove slowly and carefully the polymer clay from the mold.

~Trim off any extra clay using a cutting tool or razor.

~Push wire or jump ring into back prior to baking your reproduction. Bake according 2 directions.

~Your mold can be used over and over to recreate multiples of your original item.

First Show of 2009

My first show of 2009 is going to be in April. Funky Finds Spring Fling in Ft Worth, TX. I'm working on refining some of my items, as well as my displays. I look forward to the show and showing off my new stuff. There will be 100 vendors at this event and it has some amazingly creative people pedaling their wares. Bonus its free to get in!

Well its time for another year to end. But no worries another one will be right there ready and waitinig. Waiting for you to make the most of it or totally fuck it up. Its up to you.

Although I'm staying home this evening, listening to NPR and watching the ball drop on the telly. I still will enjoy ringing in the new year.

2008 started off with such promise and a feeling of wonderment. It didn't end as great, but hey I made it thru.

So looking to the new year, what do I expect, hope and wish for. Health, wealth (or at least not poverty) and some happiness. Which all comes with a generous side of sickness, brokeness and sadness/madness.

But hey I'll take it.

Enjoy what you have. Make the most of your own talents. And have an effin' Happy New Years!!!

Halloween sadness

Its Halloween and that makes me kind of sad. I'm over 1300 miles from my mom, the Queen of Halloween.
Its the day of the year I miss her the most. My mother has always loved Halloween. She has made nearly every costume I've ever worn. I remember in kindergarten her being in charge of the Haunted House at my school. Making all the scary things, and getting the older neighborhood kids to run around in the Haunted House chase all the little kids. My mom would do every ones make up. Its amazing what she could do even if we were poor back then, a little cheap makeup and some of my dad's old clothes and they were all killing dead zombies.
From my first Halloween trick or treating when she made me into a little red devil, to making me into one of the dead dancers from Michael Jackson's Thriller, to making me a white vinyl naughty nurse outfit, to us making together my Zena warrior Princess outfit, to my Ball Gown for my victorian costume, to countless outfits she made for my friends. My mom has always and will always be the Queen of Halloween to me.
And even though I can't be with her tonight, handing out the 500 bags of Kettle Korn her and my dad made, eating chili, sitting in the front yard, and talking with my parents friends. She's in my heart, and I know I am in hers. And someday we will live close enough to each other again to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year together again.

Custom Orders

Well I worked on some custom orders over the weekend. This first one is a Bat Frame that is still in progress, I'm doing this one for a trade with a shop on Etsy.

This one was a custom order I received off myspace. They wanted a dishwasher sign to flip when the dishes were clean or dirty. And it just so happened they like cherries.

Custom orders can be fun and sometimes a little frustrating as well. Because sometimes the customer has one thing in there head and you have another. But so far my custom orders have been a sucess!
